This might be redundent but here we go:
I bought a 71 Torino a couple years back, got it looking nice, put on a couple bolt on parts, fine. But its still an old tired dog. So now Im thinking of testing my hand at engine building. Any and all help would be great.
Id like to keep the cost down and use as many parts that I've already purchased as possible which means Id like to keep it a 2v. Plus the torq is decent in a 2v.
Here's what I got:
C4 Trans
Hooker headers 3" into a 3" exhaust dumped right before the rear axel.
RPM Air Gap intake
Edelbrock Thunder series 650cfm
Im fairly certain it has the 9" rearend but Im not home to double check at the moment
The plan is to build an engine and keep the current engine in and then do a swap.
So far I know Id like throw on a pair of the aussie closed heads, and to keep cost down, probably the cast iron ones. Likely have it bored 30 over. Absolutely max money Id like to spend is $4000 to $5000 for everything including any stall converters, OD's, or changing the gear ratio.
What would you do?
Desired use is never taking it to a track, but maybe from one light to the next and being very fast. The car is only a weekend driver at best. I live in a high altitude (4,500 ft).
I appreciate any responses. Thanks guys!
