electric fuel pump pressure issues

Well having some issues with my electric inline pump setup. I have it plumbed with -8 from the tank to the filter then directly to the pump then -8 to the holley regulator then -6 to the carb. The pump I have came with the project, there are no markings on it so I do not know the brand other than that it is new and looks like a holley style, probably a copy. Filter is a fram screw on style (i believe that is correct?) The pump is on its own switch, 24gal flat bottom fuel cell (JAZ) pickup is set from them when you buy the cell. I put 5gal of fuel in the tank and turned the pump on. Pump sound changed after a sec and fuel pressure went up to 7.5 on my gauge. Then the pump will loose prime it sounds and fuel pressure will drop to 2psi then back to 7.5. I can't make sense of this varrying pressure. Should I be worried about this pump sucking air and loosing prime often? It is on an off-road race truck so fuel will be moving a lot in the tank, I also will run the tank low quite often. Should the pump reprime if it sucks air or is there a better option for my application?
